My studio space

I studied Fine Art & Interactive Arts at Gwent College in Newport, Wales gaining a 2:1 hons degree.

Since then I have explored new media and found and developed a passion using glass. I now live in Bath where I also have my studio.

Over the last 20 years I have been working on various commissions and personal projects using a mixture of stained glass techniques, painting, layering, mosaics, sandblasting and using fused glass to create unique hand crafted pieces.

Preliminary sketches

First ideas and compositions based on location, size and clients brief

Colour decisions

Colour and texture considerations happens all through the planning stages.

The plan is drawn up, exact measurements are vital.

colour choices have been made and now to cut with as least waste as possible considering texture directions.

All pieces are numbered, and cut to exact size.

Cutting and shaping the lead came around the glass.

Lead is held in place by nails and firmly held piece by piece.

Soldering

All joints are soldered together.

Filling with cement in lead grooves

Black cement is filled in all gaps on both sides of glass piece.

Chalking and scraping

The whole piece is coverd in chalk and left for around 3 days to harden. Then all edges are scraped back and excess cement removed.

Blacking

Black and polish leads to shine and condition glass and lead.

Glass finished and now in situ
